Liquefied salts in sea water make The ocean is salty because of the salt that dissolves in sea water. Seawater can become saturated with dissolved salts. Certain marine animals can remove these salts from sea water and produce protective shells or build a reef, when the water cannot hold anymore salt since water can only hold a certain amount of dissolved solids. During dry conditions, minerals are formed as the water evaporates then solids crystallize out of the water. On the other hand, atoms and ions arrange themselves and form mineral crystals when the magma-as an ash or lava ash cools above the ground or magma cools below the ground.
