According to Fick's law of diffusion, diffusion rate is proportional to the surface area of the membrane, the concentration gradient and permeability coefficient and inversely related to the thickness of the barrier membrane.

    Explanation:

Fick, s law formula is as follows:

    Rate of diffusion = C1 - C2 * permeability coefficient * Area

    Thickness of barrier

Fick's law predicts the rate of movement of molecules across a barrier. The concentration gradient (C1 - C2) and permeability coefficient for the drug and the area and thickness of barrier membrane are used to compute the diffusion rate.

According to the fick's law of diffusion absorbtion of the drug in the blood would be faster with a large surface area like in small intestine than the organs having smaller absorbing areas like the stomach. Further more, drug absorption is faster from the organs with thin membrane barriers than from those with thick barriers.
