Cells comunicate by sending and receiving signals. signals come from the environment, or they are come from the other cell. in order to triggers a response these signal must be transmitted across the cell membrane. sometimes the signal itself can cross the membrane. other times the signal works by interacting with receptor proteins that contact both of the outside and inside the la cell.
