    Fossil fuels (coal, oil and natural gas) have played and continue to play a major role in transforming the world from an agricultural society to the modern industrial world we live in today. Fossil fuels produce electricity, and fuels for heating and transportation. They also provide petrochemicals used in industrial products and plastics.
