The answer is Surgical treatment cures ulcerative colitis.

Ulcerative colitis is a inflammatory disease that cause multiple ulcer in the colon. The ulcer might cause pain when food passing through it. It is similar to Chron's disease, not progressing into it. If the surgery just relieve it temporary instead of cure it, the patient probably choose to continue endure it.
