Several greenhouse gases occur in the atmosphere. Carbon dioxide (CO2) is one of them but so are methane (CH4) and oxides of nitrogen (NOx).

A. They trap some of the long-wave radiation emitted by the Earth's surface.

B. They prevent short-wave radiation from reaching the Earth's surface.

C. They dissolve in rainwater to produce acid rain.

D. They are only produced by human activity whereas CO2 and CH4 are also produced naturally.

The answer is A. The long-wave radiation also called infrared can cause the temperature increase. They can be trapped and released by the greenhouse gases which will cause the greenhouse effect. For B, it is ozone sphere that can prevent the short-wave radiation from reaching the Earth's surface. For C, the acid rain is mainly caused by sulfide like SO2. For D, all of these gases can be produced naturally.
