Fine sand particles are placed on a on a paper plate and the plate is set on top of a stereo speaker. The stereo is turned on and the music is played very loudly. The sand particles on the plate bounce around and arrange themselves in different patterns. What causes the formation of these patterns?

    The vibrations of the music coming from the speaker makes the sand move.
