The signal travels to the brain (central nervous system) by traveling through the sensory neuron. The sensory receptors in the stubbed toe cause the sensory neurons to depolarize and invoke an action potential. This impulse travels through the peripheral nervous system to the central nervous system. Sensory neurons are part of the peripheral nervous system.
