Each enzyme produced by the body is specific. They react or function with only one reactant to produce specific products. They are protein in nature with a three dimensional structure. They sometimes use organic molecules like biotin and inorganic molecules such as metal ions namely magnesium ions for assistance in catalysis.

Sometimes, they may show varying degrees of specificity. They may show absolute specificity where they react specifically with only one substrate or they may show stereo specificity where they can detect the different optical isomers and react with only one type of isomer.
