    Gametes are sex cells

    Somatic cells perform mitosis

    Sex cells perform meiosis

The cells divide by a process called mitosis. This is the process by which a cell divides resulting in two daughter cells that are genetically identical to each other and to the parent cell.

Multicellular organisms depend on mitosis for growth and repair. In fact on of the major functions of mitosis is the growth of the organism. The only way that multicellular organisms grow is by increase in size of specific tissues, and this is only accomplished through mitosis.
