Natural Killer (NK) cells are lymphocytes part of the innate immune system. These cells respond very rapid to changes in organism. Their main functions are to detect early stages of cancer and to kill cells that are infected by virus and tumor cells. Additionally, NK cells secrete cytokines to enhance the further immune response. NK cells recognize infected cells via receptors on their surface.
