How do magma and lava contribute to the formation of igneous rock?

    Igneous rocks are formed through the cooling and solidification of magma or lava. Hot, molten rock rises to the surface, as it comes up to the surface it undergoes changes and pressure that cause it to cool, solidify, and crystallize
