Environmental restoration refers to the process of assisting the recovery of the natural environment which has been damaged and destroyed by human activities or a natural disaster. It is done by growing more number of trees by the process of afforestation, or by providing protection to endangered plant or animal species.

An indigenous tribe living in a rainforest overhunts a species of antelope one year is not a viable option for environmental restoration because this will limit the population of antelope in that area. It may also, result in the extinction of antelope species from the rainforests hence, does not support restoration.
