    Shale and sandstone are examples of clastic sedimentary rock.

    Clastic sedimentary rocks are rocks that are formed when pre-existing rocks are broken down into sand, pebble or clay particles by weathering processes due exposure of the rocks to wind, water and ice. Clastic sedimentary rocks are named based on the sizes of the grain in them. They include; shale, sandstone, conglomerate, and breccia.
