Faulting This can be regarded as a split or fracture in the Earth's outside layer commonly referred to as crust. These are related with, or frame, the limits between Earth's structural plates. In a dynamic fault, the bits of the Earth's outside layer along a rock that has faulted moves after some time. The moving rocks can cause seismic tremors and hence volcanic activities.
