The nucleic acids provide blueprints for the construction of proteins. The mRNA (messenger RNA) takes the genetic info of the proteins from the DNA (Deoxyribonucleic acid) and it give it to the ribosome (which produces proteins) so the ribosome produces protein according to the 'blueprints' that came from the DNA
