I believe the answer is cell division

Chemotherapy drugs will damage the cell DNA. The cancer cell is known to divide uncontrollably with a defect in their DNA repairing system. A cell that undergoes continuous division will be prone to DNA damage than stable cells. The damage will accumulate as the cell divides and finally lead to cell lysis.

it often leads to side effects like hair loss and nausea.

    Explanation:

Chemotherapy is a treatment that uses medicines to destroy diseased cells that form a tumor. These drugs mix with the blood and are carried to all parts of the body, destroying the diseased cells that are forming the tumor and also preventing them from spreading throughout the body. Chemotherapy attacks various cells, whether cancerous or not. So it is normal for the patient to feel unwell, with nausea, dry mouth and sensitive skin, and the patient may experience thinning hair because chemotherapy mainly affects frequently multiplying cells such as hair.
