Well we get 23 chromosomes (that contains the same phenotype genes as our parents like blue eyes or blond hair) from each parent. DNA is like a manual it tells the chromosomes where to go or what to do (like getting red hair or small hands) all these traits come from your parents or great grandparents it keeps coming down. Example: If your grandmother had green eyes and your mother has brown eyes that means she still carries the trait her son might get the green eyes from his grandmother. It keeps going down from generation to generation.
