Silurian period is the third period in the Paleozoic era and it occurred between 443 million years ago to 416 million years ago. The main evidence of Silurian period that the scientist have is the fossil evidence. Silurian period was marked by the rising sea levels.

The continents also were low at that time. This enabled the development of life in shallow waters and terrestrial ecosystem. The fossils of coral reefs from the Silurian period have been found. Earliest arachnids like millipedes, centipedes originated in the Silurian period. The arrival of first plants to land also happened during the Silurian period.
