    That's the short answer it's because it visual. A pedigree has squares, circles, half colored squares and half colored circles and lines drawn to show the offspring or marriage. To me, it's like looking at a family tree except it's genetics! That's one way on how it simplifies the analysis of inheritance. Just a note to remind you about pedigrees. Squares are males and circles are female. If the box or circle is half colored with black, they are a carrier for a genetic disease (it depends on what their family has had like diabetes or sickle cell disease).
