Overall growth rate of a population is:

(birth rate - death rate) + (immigration rate - emigration rate)

    Explanation:

Population is the group of individuals that are of same species and are living in an area.

Population is added through birth of new individuals and through immigration. Birth rate is the the number of births per 1000 individuals per unit of time. This is calculated usually per year. When people of same species immigrate into the population, it is added to the population.

Population is decreased by mortality rate and through emigration of individuals out of the group of population.

Thus, overall growth will be (birth rate - death rate) + (immigration rate - emigration rate).
