What phase of meiosis is related to mendel's law of independent assortment?

    During gamete formation, the alleles for each gene segregate from each other so that each gamete carries only one allele for each gene. Law of independent assortment. Genes for different traits can segregate independently during the formation of gametes.

    Mendel's Law of Segregation can be seen in Anaphase I. Mendel's law of independent assortment can be seen in Prophase I (pachytene substage). However i personally think that this law can also be seen in metaphase I, where random arrangement of chromosomes can lead to independent assortment of those genes, which are located on non-homologous chromosomes."
