Palomino horses and Pinto horses are based on their coat colors and not their breeds. For a horse to registered with either of these horse associations the horses must exhibit the pinto horse coat of large white areas with brown, red or black contrasting areas. Palomino horses must show the tan fur with a blonde tail and mane to be in the registry. The physical features of the horse's mouth, nose and eyes do not matter, only the coloring.
