How is relative-age dating used to determine the ages of fossils?

    Relative age dating is the science of determining the relative order of past events using comparative data, which does not necessarily determine the absolute age. It proposes an estimated age, using the data of what has been more recently deposited on the surface, and fossils age is compared to the estimated age of the rock and residue in the area being excavated.
