Leukopenia is a blood disorder that is characterized by the reduction of white blood cells in the body. It is a disorder commonly seen in individuals who have undergone kidney transplant. The reason behind this a fact that health care provider inject individual undergoing transplant surgery with immunosuppressive agents. These agents suppress the hematopoietic fnction of bone marrow one of them being production of white blood cells. Another reason for reduction of white blood cells is viral infection especially cytomegalovirus. Viral infections also interfere with production of white blood cells in the bone marrow.
