The system of Five Kingdoms was accepted because all the living things are classified in this model. Based on the fundamental characteristics, prokaryotes are included in one kingdom and the four kingdoms of eukaryotic organisms (protists, fungi, plants and animals). In the late 1970s, Carl Woese and his colleagues found that there were two separate groups of prokaryotes based on DNA sequences of different prokaryotes.
