Women also have a higher risk of developing certain complications during pregnancy, such as gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, premature detachment of the placenta (premature separation of the placenta and uterine wall) and placenta previa (when the placenta moves to the lower part of the uterus, covering the cervix partially or completely).

Women who become pregnant for the first time at a later reproductive age such as 35 or older are more susceptible to miscarriages and their babies are more likely to be born prematurely. They are more likely to experience a stillbirth or bleeding complications. Their babies have a higher chance of suffering birth defects like r. etardation due to chromosome imbalance.
