Experiment 1: Measuring the Rate of Photosynthesis For the first experiment, what was the change in volume from 00:00:00 to 00:00:30? Calculate the change in volume by subtracting the later gas volume from the earlier gas volume. Record your result for a later question. Note: depending on when you started the timer there is a range of possible volumes. Pick the answer that is closest to yours.

To answer this problem, we would to look at the table of results. Suppose that we have the following result:

    Rate of Photosynthesis Results:

Time Volume in Gas Syringe (mL)

    00:00:00 0.6

    00:00:30 4.8

    00:01:00 9.4

    00:01:30 13.8

    00:02:00 18.2

So we simply have to subtract the volume at 00:00:30 with the volume at 00:00:0o, so that

    change in volume = 4.8 - 0.6

change in volume = 4.2 mL
