    Sustainable Development Practices

The developmental initiatives and practices which meet the present needs without the need to compromise the future generation's ability to meet their future needs are termed as sustainable development practices.

    Explanation:

Sustainable development practices - PNW, Salmon and dams

The Pacific Northwest Waterways (PNW) refers to River Columbia and its tributaries which run across the states of Oregon, Idaho, and Washington and merge with the Pacific Ocean.

PNW region hosts a number of dams for operating hydroelectric power stations. The PNW is a major habitat for fishes like salmon which migrate and spawn there.

The dams are a continual cause of the destruction of these salmon habitats and fishing sites. These dams also impact the river flow pattern and raise water temperature, which further affects aquatic life.

However, the power stations are also necessary to generate power to supply the entire region. Hence, the dams must follow sustainable developmental practices which will not damage the salmon fishing sites in PNW.
