Why are mitochondria arranged around the filament near the tail of the sperm

Supplying cellular energy, mitochondria are involved in tasks, such as signaling, cellular differentiation, and cell death, as well as maintaining control of the cell cycle and cell growth. The sperm's mitochondria enter the egg, but do not contribute genetic information to the embryo. Instead, paternal mitochondria are marked with ubiquitin to select them for later destruction inside the embryo. They are located around the filament of the tail end of sperm to instigate and fuel the process of cell growth and development with the female egg.
