    limbic system

    Explanation:

The first time that the limbic system was discussed, although in a less conceptualized and more primitive way than we know it now, it was because Paul Broca named an area located near the pineal gland, that is, in the limbus or border, the area of "the great limbic lobe". Hence the logic of its name, because it is located in the limbo or edge of other structures already known at that time.

But the limbic system, as we know it today, was conceptualized by the physiologist MacLean in 1949. He expanded the primary conceptualization of this system that Papez started in 1939, giving it its current name. MacLean decided to expand the number of structures that compose it because he considered that in our evolution the development of the cerebral cortex was just as important as the development of our emotional brain.
