Boron has 5 protons. If another proton gets added to boron, what will happen?

A. Nothing, it will still be boron.

B. The amount of neutrons will change as well to make up for the addition of protons.

C. It will be a different element because the identity of an element is determined by its protons.

D. It will start to decay because it has become unstable.

    Answer: "C"

    Explanation: Protons have a positive charge in an atom. Since elements in the periodic table are arranged left to right, and top to bottom, in order of increasing atomic number, if you change the protons this will change the element. If there are 5 protons if boron, if we add another proton this will change our element to Carbon. Therefore, if another proton was added to boron it would change elements.
