Glycolysis is the metabolic pathway yielding energy by the conversion of glucose into pyruvate, occurring in the cytosol. The energy released during the process is used in the synthesis of high-energy molecules like Adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and nicotinamide adenine dinucleotide (NADP).

ATP, NADH and pyruvate are the products of glycolysis containing energy that can be used for other biological reactions. ATP is the main product of cellular respiration and 2 molecules of ATP are produced in conversion of the 1, 3 - bisphosphglycerate into 3-phosphogylcerate and also 2 more molecules of it is produced in the conversion of phosphoenol pyruvate into pyruvate. NADH is produced in the conversion of glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate into 1, 3 - bisphosphglycerate. Pyruvate is further metabolized in the subsequent steps of cellular respiration to yield ATP.
