In Eukaryotic cells, the electron transport chain takes place in the mitochondria while in Prokaryotic cells, it take place in the cell membrane.

The electron transport chain is a stepwise process of cellular respiration that is responsible for producing the following:

    1. up to 34 ATP molecules

    2. Water

    3. NAD and FAD (Which are recycled to be used again in the citric acid cycle and glycolysis)

At the last stage of the chain, oxygen which is the final electron acceptor, accepts two electrons of hydrogen and water is formed as a result.
