The main pigment found in chloroplast chlorophyll.
Chlorophyll is a green pigment that has light - absorbing property. It actually appears green because it absorbs blue and red wavelengths of light. The green wave lengths are reflected out, giving that unique green color to plants.
Because chlorophyll is a light absorbing pigment, it is called a photoreceptor. Chlorophyll molecules are contained within chloroplasts. Chlorophyll is a vital component that allows green plants to carry out photosynthesis. Without it, green plants would be unable to make their own food.
