Fermentation - a form of anaerobic (without air) respiration. This process only produces 2 ATP (energy) for each sugar used (which is why cellular resp. is better b. c it produces 32 ATP). there are two types:

    1) lactic acid - the waste products of this are lactic acid and water.

    2) alcoholic - the waste products of this are alcohol, carbon dioxide, and water.
