Describe the effect on a protein if one or more amino acids are changed. Cite a specific example.

    The protein's structure and function are changed. Its capacity to function properly will be altered. Example, In Sickle cell disease, hemoglogin sixth amino acid glutamate is being replaced by valine which change the structure and alters the function of the protein hemoglobin creating a variant hemoglobin S. Valine is hydrophobic causing the hemoglobin to collapse on itself occasionally.
