To get isolated colonies on a plate, only about 300 cells can be in the inoculum. what will happen if the cell density of the incolum significantly exceeds this number

    Explanation;

    -An isolated colony of bacteria is the progeny of a single bacterial cell. An isolated colony represents a pure source of an organism from which a pure culture can be started. The idea behind streaking for single bacterial colonies has to do with purity.

    -When you have a single colony isolated from the rest of the colonies on the plate, it is a pure colony "grown up" from a single bacterium (that was isolated from the rest of the sample, streaked out on the plate).
