    Explanation:

    Lateral Gene Transfer is the acquisition of genetic material from another organism (sometimes of another species) without being its offspring.

    Bacteria can acquire the genes responsible for antibiotic resistance from another species of bacteria through various mechanisms of LGT.

    LGT makes the bacteria able to generate flexible, mosaic genomes which enables individual cells to rapidly acquire adaptive phenotypes. This has made the bacteria to evolve to stronger organisms which are able to mount strong defenses against human attempts to inhibit their growth.
