Homologous structures are structures which originated from the same ancestor or origin but may perform different function. e. g the forelimbs of human, bat, cat, whale all has the similar ancestor or originated from the same source.

Structures such as humerus, phalanges, metacarpals, ulna, radius among others all originated from the source (ancestor).
