How does natural selection produce changes in populations and not individuals?

    Natural Selection. Evolution is the gradual genetic change of living organisms over time due to ecological pressures they experience. Individuals in an interbreeding population share in a common gene pool. in small populations, gene frequencies can be changed via random sampling - - this is known as genetic drift.
