Are engines essential to keep a blimp in the air

Yes although I do not know much about blimps, I believe that some type of engine would be essential to keep a blimp in the air. I understand that they use hot air, but I would think that an engine of some type would be needed to run whatever places the hot air in the balloon while traveling in the air.
