I believe the correct answer would be option 2. The nonnutrient compounds that is found in plant-derived foods that have biological activity in the body are the phytochemicals. Although they are nonnutrient they have disease preventive properties. Examples of this substance are isoflavones, flavanoids and lycopene. Phytochemicals are antioxidants wherein it protects cells from any oxidative damage and reducing the risk of having cancer. It also some has hormonal actions like for isoflavones it imitates estrogens and aid in reducing the symptoms for osteoporosis and menopausal for women. Another function of phytochemicals would be its stimulating effect for enzymes. It stimulates enzyme's action so as to have a better and efficient process.
