    The two original strands of parental DNA are separated from each other by activity of helicase enzyme. The separated single stranded parental strands are stabilized by single stranded binding proteins (SSB) and serve as template for synthesis of new DNA strand. The enzyme DNA polymerase reads the nucelotide sequence of template strands and adds the complementary bases to the primer to form new DNA strand.
