Answer: life as a living organism is a complex inter-relation of biochemical processes. The cell is the basic unit of life upon which organism complexity is built. The cell is made up of parts that each play a complex role in order to keep the organism functioning. The nucleus, the center of the cell fabricate protein from amino bases which is used to build up or repair damaged parts of the organism.

All this biochemical processes within the body need external chemical products like carbohydrates and proteins for fuelling and building respectively and for supporting the functions of the living organism. so it can be that life as a whole has a chemical base and still require chemical elements to function.
