Why wouldn't you choose wood or aluminum for the latches on your house?

Latches are meant to secure the access to your house. The latches made out of wood are susceptible to damage from termites, and also are breakable by hit by axe, file, or saw. Hence wooden latches are avoided. The latches that are made of aluminium are harder to break with physical forces than the wooden latches. However, aluminium is a metal that undergoes corrosion in a acidic environment. Aluminium latches can be easily broken by pouring acid on them.
