    The sun rises in the east and sets in the west each day because the earth rotates toward the east making a complete turn every 24 hours while the sun actually stays in its position at the center of our solar system. Therefore, as the earth spins clockwise, the sun reaches different parts of the earth at different times as the eastern part gets the sun rays first before it passes to the other parts of the earth.
