What is a limitation of using a chemical formula, such as C6H12O6, to represent a compound?

    I think that one limitation of this chemical formula representation is that the bonds of each atom with one another cannot be seen. We cannot tell what type of organic compound that is. It may be an alcohol, carboxylic acid or other types.
