By inactivating elongation factor, diptheria toxin shuts off translation.

    Explanation:

Corynebacterium diptheriae: Corynebacterium diphtheriae is the causing agent of diphtheria. Diphtheria toxin is an exotoxin (toxin type), which is secreted by Corynebacterium.

By inactivating elongation factor, diptheria toxin shuts off translation, this immediate shut off of protein synthesis is toxic to the cell, because cell need continuous synthesis of protein. Due to this blockage, cell will not able to full-filling their protein requirement, so cell will die, this have immediate and long-term effects on the cellular metabolism of an infected person.
