Spraying your lawn with pesticides with the concentration of 10-6 parts perm million, in which grasshoppers eat the grass and are in turn eaten by rats, which are then eaten by owls at each successive trophic level, increasing the concentration of the pesticides which is called for the process of biological magnification. The term biological magnification is the process where in substances like for example: heavy metals and pesticides undergoes and moves to the process of the food chain.

This process is known as Bioaccumulation. This simply means that the toxins are taken up more quickly by organisms more than it is eliminated. This is because many toxins are actually fat soluble and will be stored within the body organisms, rather than being flushed throug urines/feces or metabolized. As the predators continue to eat poisoned prey it will have a tendency to store these toxins within its system.
